Ethnology
Discover the Rich History of the Dutch East Indies and Africa through Objects from Brothers and Missionaries
Since 1862, the Brothers of Saint Louis also worked overseas in the Dutch East Indies. They brought back many ethnological objects, partly as souvenirs, partly for education in their institute.
Additionally, they maintained good contacts with the Missionaries of Africa, better known as the White Fathers, who donated various African objects, including items from the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Belgian Congo).
The Ethnology exhibition changes theme approximately every five years: from a Dutch East Indies to an African exhibition. Until 2020, there was an exhibition based on old school charts from the Dutch East Indies. Currently, the department shows a diverse exhibition about the White Fathers and their special relationship with Oudenbosch.
